Grove is an offline English course, dictionary and reader: from the first letters to the hardest prose, with a dictionary of 147,306 words and a Reading room of 155 pieces. Everything works offline, with no account, and nothing is collected.

Android phones and tablets

  1. Open the download on your phone or tablet, and tap Install.
  2. The first time, Android asks whether your browser may install apps. Allow it once, then go back and tap Install again.
  3. Grove asks for nothing when it opens. It asks for the microphone only when a learner first records a spoken answer.

Grove is not on Google Play. A new version installs over the old one, and progress stays: in Grove, Settings ▸ This version ▸ Check for updates says when there is one.

Windows PCs

Version 0.2.0 · about 47 MB · Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit

  1. Open the downloaded Grove-Setup file.
  2. Windows may say Windows protected your PC, because the installer is new and not yet signed. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Grove installs for you alone, with no administrator password. To remove it, use Settings ▸ Apps; that also removes what it kept.

Privacy

Grove does not collect personal data: nothing a learner reads, writes, says or scores is sent to the developer. On Android and Windows it goes online only when you press Check for updates, when you share a web link to it on Android, or, on an Android device that cannot recognise speech by itself, after someone has said yes to the device’s online speech service. The privacy policy says everything, plainly.
